directly — the store-discount range is an approximation since it genuinely varies by tier and category; the
performance surcharge is eBay's own published +6/+7 points). The final value fee is applied to sold price +
shipping charged to the buyer. For UK sales, the Regulatory Operating Fee (0.35% of the sale) and 20% VAT on
eBay's fees are included automatically as real costs — tick "VAT-registered business" if you can reclaim
that VAT, since then it isn't a cost to you. International fee is an optional estimate you enter yourself; it varies by buyer
destination and isn't looked up automatically. In "target margin" mode, the required price assumes the fixed
per-order fee sits in its higher bracket — true for any realistically priced resale item. A few subcategories
(watches, guitars, bullion, athletic shoes
≥$150) carry their own special rates not reflected in this category-level estimate. Sales tax isn't modeled —
add it under "Other costs" if it affects your net. Australia: this always estimates the paid
"Pro Starter" fee schedule — it does not know about eBay AU's free selling plan (introduced May 2026), which
waives the final value fee entirely for AU-based sellers under AU$25,000/year in sales, since there's no
seller-volume input anywhere in this calculator to check eligibility with. Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Canada are calculator-only
markets — standard rate only, no category breakdown, and less verified than the UK/US/AU figures above; eBay's
actual rate there can also depend on your own business's country of registration, which isn't modeled. Verify

Estimated from PayPal's own published Merchant Fees pages for the US/UK/AU markets (verified directly against
paypal.com, not a third-party aggregator, 2026-09). This is a general seller-payment calculator, not specific
to eBay — most eBay sales today go through eBay's own Managed Payments, where eBay collects the buyer's
payment directly and charges its own final value fee (the eBay Fees tab), with no separate PayPal transaction
on top. This tab is for the cases where PayPal fees genuinely apply on their own: your own website,
Etsy, invoicing a customer directly, or any other payment received via PayPal. Uses the "receiving money for
goods and services" rate for a standard commercial transaction — other PayPal transaction types (subscriptions,
point of sale, PayPal Checkout button integrations, which carry a different, usually higher rate) aren't
modeled. The international surcharge is an estimate (UK varies by whether the buyer is in the EEA — this uses
the higher non-EEA rate to avoid understating the fee). Currency conversion fees aren't included. Verify exact
numbers against your own PayPal account before a decision that matters.

account rates differ. Neither includes any discount your own eBay/marketplace label-buying integration might get
you, which is often cheaper than either retail rate shown here.
How eBay fees are calculated
eBay charges most of its selling cost when an item sells, as a final value fee. This calculator works it out the same way eBay does:
Fee base — the sold price plus the shipping you charge the buyer. eBay takes its percentage of both.
Final value fee — a percentage that depends on the marketplace and the category, with a lower rate above a price threshold on high-value items, plus a fixed per-order fee.
Extra fees — promoted listings (the ad rate you choose), the regulatory operating fee where the market charges one, and the international fee when the buyer is abroad.
VAT on fees — in markets where eBay charges VAT on its own fees, it's added unless you tell the calculator you're VAT-registered (and can reclaim it).
Profit — fee base minus your item cost, your shipping cost, any other costs and all of the fees above. Margin is profit as a percentage of the fee base.

What this calculator doesn't cover
The rates are a hand-maintained table checked against eBay's own fee pages, not a live feed from eBay, so a very recent rate change may not be reflected yet. A few niche sub-categories with their own special rate fall back to their parent category's rate. eBay Australia's free selling plan for smaller sellers isn't modelled. The calculator always assumes the standard paid schedule.

Does the eBay final value fee include shipping?
Yes. The final value fee is charged on the sold price plus the shipping charged to the buyer, which is why the calculator asks for both.
What is a break-even price on eBay?
The lowest sold price at which your item cost, shipping cost, other costs and all of eBay's fees are exactly covered. Anything above it is profit.
Do I pay PayPal fees on eBay sales?
Usually not. Most eBay sales now go through eBay's own managed payments, where payment processing is part of eBay's fees. Use the PayPal tab for money you receive through PayPal directly, such as from your own website or an invoice.
