Writing listing descriptions with AI

Write a clear eBay description from your item details, checked against eBay's item specifics, buyer search words and listing rules.

Updated

The Description Generator writes the description for an eBay listing from what you tell it about the item. It also checks it against what eBay asks for in the item's category, the words buyers search for, and eBay's listing rules. You get a formatted version to paste into eBay's HTML editor and a plain-text version for the normal editor. It's part of SoldPulse's paid plans: if you don't see Description Generator in the sidebar, your plan doesn't include it (see Pricing).

How to use it

  1. Open Description Generator from the sidebar in SoldPulse.
  2. Pick the market you're listing on. Write in switches to that market's language; you can change it (English, German, French, Italian or Spanish).
  3. Type the item name the way a buyer would search for it, for example Bamboo bath mat, non-slip, and click Find category & buyer words. SoldPulse looks at live eBay listings for it (this uses one of your daily lookups).
  4. Check the suggested category (the percentage is how many of those listings use it). Its item specifics appear as fields, with eBay's allowed values as suggestions. Those marked * are required by eBay. Fill in the ones you know.
  5. Under Buyer search words, tick the words that truly describe your item. The number is how many live titles use the word. Every word you tick is worked into the opening of the description.
  6. Pick the condition and a tone, and add any condition notes (such as a mark on one corner, or what's in the box), other specifications and key selling points.
  7. Click Write description. Not happy with it? Click Write another version.

You can skip the research step and just fill in the fields yourself.

Improve a description you already have

Open Improve an existing description instead and paste your current description (text or HTML). It's rewritten into a clearer layout that keeps your facts and drops what doesn't belong in a listing: shipping and returns, contact details, links to other websites, and hype like "AMAZING!!!".

What you get

  • The description, shown as buyers will see it: a headline, a short introduction with your buyer words, key features, specifications and the condition. Use Copy HTML (paste into eBay's description editor in HTML view) or Copy plain text.
  • Warnings if the text mentions a brand on eBay's VeRO list, a restricted term, an email address, phone number or website. eBay doesn't allow contact details or links to other websites in listings. The lists aren't complete, so no warning doesn't guarantee a description is safe.
  • Buyer search words: which of the words you ticked are in the description.
  • Required item specifics not filled in, so you can add them before you list.
  • Write matching titles: three 80-character titles built from the same name, specifics and buyer words, each with its Title Checker score.
  • Use in Listing Templates (if your plan has Listing Templates): opens the description in your branded template, ready to style and copy.

It only writes what you tell it

The AI is told never to add a size, material, brand, feature or claim you didn't give it, even for a product it recognises, such as a well-known model. Buyer words you tick count as facts you've confirmed, so only tick words that are true for your item. AI can still make mistakes, so read the description before you list: you know the item, the AI doesn't.

What it uses from your plan

  • Each description, and each set of matching titles, uses one of your plan's daily AI requests. A request that fails isn't counted.
  • Find category & buyer words uses one of your daily lookups.
  • Both reset at midnight UTC.

Does it help my listing rank?

Not directly. eBay's search leans mostly on your title, item specifics, price and seller record. A clear description that agrees with your title and item specifics, and uses the words buyers search for, helps buyers decide and cuts down on returns. To work on the title itself, use Title Builder or the eBay Title Checker, and see where the listing appears with the Rank Checker.
